The 1 Week Bing Challenge

Recommended Posts

So i decided to challenge myself with 1 week of only using bing for my searches. The only exception to using google is for mail and google drive. Everything else has to be done in bing.

If anyone is interested in doing this challenge with me consider signing up for the bing reward program using my referral link(its only free).https://www.bing.com/explore/rewards?PUBL=REFERAFRIEND&CREA=RAW&rrid=_7737baa8-972c-2722-29f2-3022b310c9a7

If your going to do the challenge why not get something for it lol.

If you are interested here are all the things you can get with the points. https://www.bing.com/rewards/redeem/all

When the week is over i will post my conclusions about bing. The main reason in doing this challenge is to actually give bing a try instead of instantly calling it shit.

Why use bing? BecauseItsNotGoogle XD. I couldn't resist saying that lol.

Noice.

I reckon Bing needs a bit of a rebranding.

At some stage or another Google needs competition or we're f***ed. We love Google, right? It's actually quite concerning that we source all of our information from the same company. The power Google has is really scary and I wouldn't be surprised of any scandals in years to come.

So I support your challenge! I'm sure it won't be easy :P There's also Yahoo but the geez the company has gone downhill recently.

I admittedly hate Bing, because it takes twice as many clicks to actually get to a page result. Doesn't the first search just bring up more topics to search (or maybe I'm confusing it with MSN...)?

Anyway, maybe I'll try Bing again; it's a smart promotion. Thanks for bringing it up.

Takes the exact amount as google does.

Yeah, my only experience with Bing was through MSN. So that explains that.

I'm testing it out, and I don't see much of a difference, either. Good to know.

(Edit)

So I just found 1 point for Bing - supermarket blitz brought up Blitz campaign (what I was looking for); whereas Google didn't.

They bring up such different pages. I got a Youtube video from Google for blitz supermarket tho'... interesting.

Bing Review

Since i tried bing for a week now i had a chance to see how it effects my every day searching. I use search engines at least 40 times a day. I will be comparing it to googles search engine every step of the review because its the only other one i used up to this point. So here we go.

Search:
Both searches are great and nearly the same for finding things. Google is better at some things and bing is better at some things. I noticed sometimes bing knows exactly what i want where google sometimes has a hard time.
As for presentation they both seem to have nearly the same way of presenting info. As you can tell tho bing does list a little more info in a smaller area making it easier to navigate to.

Google: http://i.imgur.com/8k62aP3.png
The number of results is irrelevant.
For searching id have to give it to Bing.
Winner: Bing

Video:
I dont really ever use the video search so ill make this one short from when i have tested them.

Google: http://i.imgur.com/vvRzuuH.png
You can see not much thought has went into making googles video search as its just like a normal search but for videos.
Bings videos are better layed out and actually offer search suggestions. Bing also has a neat preview feature where if you mouse over a video for a few sec it will play a preview.
Since bings video search was a little to much work to actually get to the actual site where the video was hosted id have to give it to google on this one for its simplicity.
Winner: Google

Images:
I use image search alot and i didnt feel comfortable using bing image searching at first but once i got use to it everything felt good and like it should be. Bings image search is actually awesome once you start to use it. Its got an awesome favorite feature where you can favorite pictures you find and only display favorites if you want to. There is even a slideshow feature if you want to sit back and watch the results.

Google: http://i.imgur.com/o3NTsWs.jpg , http://i.imgur.com/kISeflC.jpg
Bing seemed to beat google at every turn when it came to image searching so im going to give this one to bing.
Winner: Bing

Maps:
I dont use maps for much else than stalking people and looking at earth/street view to stalk them even more. Yes marked im at your front door. Just kidding but in all seriousness the maps for bing load alot faster than googles but it sucks. Google has far superior maps in every way. The ability to type nearly anything in google maps to find a result is amazing, especially its accuracy. It may seem like im automatically giving it to google but im not. Use both and i bet you will find googles maps more superior in every way so im giving it to google.

Winner: Google

Since they are tied lets pick an actual winner. Since most people use search engines to find websites, articles and pictures bing has won at those id have to give it to bing. This is mostly my opinion so you may have a different result.

Winner: Bing

Will i continue using bing you might ask? I will most likely continue using google since all of my stuff like mail, files and everything is on google. As much as i like bing, googles got my heart.

If you liked this please give it a like and share it with your friends and i will see you in the next one.....oh wait this isnt a video. ummmm yea just go with it.

So what you're saying is... Most people who "hate" Bing, have barely tried it or haven't at all? Not surprised lol.

I also put it as my default one and I liked it. Images was slightly more of a hassle, not because it didn't find anything good but I tend to open them quickly in the another tap, it didn't liked that very much.

But I reckon people hate Bing because it ain't google or something. Certainly some people tend to do that. lol

Edit: I found 1 bad thing about Bing...It doesn't like to translate all pages when asked to while google loves to translate stuff.
