Project Chronos

  • Story
Project Chronos is a secret research project by Poltech Inc. at the Poltech Institute of Technology. They've been trying to create a time machine.
The player controls a member of that team. The PC is approached by the CEO of Poltech Inc. about a special job that requires them to be the first person to travel back in time. They turn it down, but end up getting sent back anyway after something goes wrong with the machine, along with the rest of the team and the CEO, who is mysteriously missing once they arrive in the middle ages.
The player character meets Albus, a famous wizard, after he saves them from a goblin attack. The rest of the research team doesn't make it, but the player character is taught how to fight and given a job of their choice so they can blend in.
History says that the Shadow Knights came very close to taking over the kingdom, but they were defeated and never came back. When the PC arrives in the past, 30 years after the Shadow Knights' defeat, he/she will soon discover that they're back. Back from being defeated. History has changed…but how?
Meanwhile, the PC's spouse is left at home…when you don't come home, he/she goes looking for you.

Making some good progress . – Decided I'm not doing the reputation system I had planned. It was going to change dialog and things based on your reputation with certain characters, but I couldn't find a way to do it that I liked. I know HOW to do it obviously, but gameplay wise, it just wouldn't work and didn't seem like it was worth all the work it would take. – Added a crafting system, which will let the player create rare items that increase stats or teach skills – Completed the first real boss of the game and, as of this post, I'm almost done with the first dungeon.  Not making any promises, but I might be able to release an Alpha version/demo thing within the next couple months  Edit: Oh, and I added the ability to be gay so you can pick which of the two versions of […]

Made a little bit of progress…

    By Bob423,

The story's really coming along nicely. I have the majority of it planned out, but obviously details will have to be figured out when I get to them.  I've come up with a plan for how items and shops will work that I like as well. Basically… Traditional healing items like potions and ethers will be super expensive at the start of the game, but food items like apples will be really cheap. Most of the player's money will come from either chests or selling useless junk that drops from non-human enemies. E.g: the various colors of goo you get from slimes can be sold at various prices, depending on the color, since certain colors are rarer than others. Human enemies will drop money, but they're only found in very specific areas and scripted battles.  This is a bigger project than I expected, but shouldn't impossible…although there will be several […]

    Progress: Evented Enemy Encounters

    By Bob423,

I think I finally got the enemy encounters to work the way I want them to…at least as close to what I want with what I have. Most enemies will chase you if you get within 3 tiles of them. They can usually be outrun if the player sprints, but will keep chasing until the player leaves the map and reenters or fights the enemy. I really wish there was another way to make them stop chasing : When not chasing, most enemies will move at random, but certain areas of the map will be blocked off from them to prevent enemies from going to places they shouldn't.When the player escapes from battle, the enemy will wait a few seconds before chasing again. If the player is far enough away when the enemy starts moving again, the enemy will not chase the player. Also, because MV doesn't have enough freaking enemy sprites, enemy […]
