Hope Afloat Remastered

  • Storyline
It came out of nowhere. At first, it was small isolated incidents. Somewhere, the power stations would spontaneously stop working, or a few people would go missing. Cover up, after cover up, after cover up. Then, before anybody knew, it was everywhere. Highways were bordered off, and all planes across entire continents were grounded, but it was already too late. Entire cities were dead before the military even had a chance to respond, and reports indicated the pathogen was 100% fatal. The armies of several nations declared a war on the undead masses; missiles were launched, towns and cities were fire-bombed, but it didn't achieve much.

That was two weeks ago. Since, the military has announced a full-scale retreat, in the attempt of building fortresses before the infected masses spread out and arrive there. Kyle, the only known survivor of a small coastline town of Emberville, is running out of supplies and is desperate. Via radio, he learns the army seem to have found an isolated area to build their supposed safe haven at, and have made it clear that any and all survivors are welcome. Hoping to find the remains of his family, Kyle has to muster his courage, and find a way to traverse three dead continents to reach sanctuary.

    Features

    • A Variety of Infected
    • Extensive Gunplay and Customization
    • Dozens of Locations to Explore over Three Continents
    • Survival-Horror Aspects Inspired by Resident Evil, Silent Hill, and Fallout.

All maps have custom-made Cosmetic Fog layers to add detailed lighting and atmosphere. Excuse the quality; it is a gif.

    Next Project/Update?

    By Tomo2000,

Shortly after the 11th, I'm going to have a big chunk of time I'll be able to sink into one of my projects, and haven't come up with which I want to put work into just yet. Now that the Hope Afloat Remastered engine is, for the most part, polished, with a few exceptions, I can start work on some projects that were halted purely by limitations of the original engine. So here's my options; Hope Afloat Remastered The original demo for Hope Afloat Remastered was a lot shorter than I would have liked, but I wanted something out by Halloween, and it's good to see the engine working as it should and that there wasn't too many issues. There are a lot of systems I've hinted at here and there. Along your travels, you'll meet a lot of people who can help you out. who knows, maybe the Shangri-La you're searching […]

Happy Halloween & Hope Afloat Demo

    By Tomo2000,

Happy Halloween everyone. The demo's now been uploaded, and you can all go and play it. Please share your comments and feedback, and I hope you all enjoy it.  The game will throw an error since the game won't encrypt .txt files. You'll need to make a folder called Graphics and extract the patch .zip file into it to prevent an error popping up. I'll work around typing to find ways to fix this.  Known bugs: • To equip the first pistol, you have to press the equip option twice. I have no idea what's causing this. • The image in Weapon Overview in the 'check' screen won't appear if you've recently equipped the weapon and haven't pressed shift with it yet. It works before equipping it perfectly, and, after pressing shift (which is to aim) it works again. Again, no idea what's causing this.

    Hiatus End & Small Progress

    By Tomo2000,

I apologise for constantly disappearing and re-appearing here and there. As some of you know, I've been in Brisbane for the past few months doing university, and, until I've been able to get my student allowance for studying full-time, I've had to work a part time job to pay for food and accommodation. But, now that I've got my allowance and been able to stop working, I have more free time to put into Hope Afloat, various other side projects, and into the forum.  Mostly what I've been doing over the course of the little free time I've had available was to try idiot-proofing a few of my systems, which, to be honest, are far from perfect. There's always a few graphical bugs here and there, but the aim is to make the systems stable enough to be functional in a short demo. Every time I come back to the […]

New Systems & What To Expect From The "Demo"

    By Tomo2000,

What to Expect:This is going to be a pretty long blog entry, so let's get straight down to business. I'm kind of stealing inspiration from Omar when I want to get the demo out by Halloween. This will be Halloween by Australian time, so it'll be a day before Omar's demo. I really don't want to steal any notice from him and what I imagine will be an amazing demo. Mine, on the other hand, won't be so much. It's almost more like a proof of concept than a proper demo, and will have a rather large file size [roughly 50mb] because, well, I have a lot of redundant files and whatnot left over from previous versions, and, while those fills will eventually get a trimming, I honestly don't know what I'll never need and what I might need in the future. Anyhow, I don't imagine the demo will actually […]

    Programming

It's a huge, elaborate, occasionally multi-lingual, block of RGSS that displays an almost schitzophrenic nature between refined and spaghetti code. It's taken me close to two years to properly understand the system and how I can dramatically revamp and change it, but, thanks.

    Special Thanks

I'm not sure whether Programmer or Special Thanks better suits. Thanks for several HUDs, and for making me stare at code I never understood for hours at end. Your teaching methods, while long and mentally excruciating, worked, surprisingly well. Thanks.

    Special Thanks

There's tonnes of people to thank just for support and inspiration along the way. PM me if you should be on this list (you know who you are), but, to everyone I forgot to add, thanks so much.
