Ethereality

    Introduction


    Hello everyone, I'm Drago2308(You can call me Drew if you want.) I've been really busy with school and exams lately. But that's all done for now *grin*
    For the past couple of weeks I've been talking with Omar on Skype and we've tackled a lot of topics about video games and our personal projects. One day, Omar suggested to me if I was interested in making a game with him. I suddenly thought about it for a moment. I then proceeded to tell him that it wouldn't be a bad idea to do a game project with him. Omar and I then thought what would our game be. Omar then suggested a platformer. And I loved the idea because I love them. And then I suggested him one of my favorite platformer game which is called Klonoa. Omar loved the idea and we jumped in. Since then Omar and I have been working on the game for some weeks. We're still working on it and we Aim our game for the android market. We've been playing our creation on our phones and they work flawlessly. But we still have so much to do.

    Concept Storyline


    And here is the story that has been created so far, this is not near a finished story however it show the plot. We will fix the holes in information soon.

     

    A long time ago, centuries ago. There was an evil being who wanted to take over the peaceful world of [World Name here] to enslave all type of creatures. This evil being is known as [Insert Name]. He was feared by many.

     

    One day, all seven regions of the world United to create a seal. with a crystal representing each region.
    These crystals were known as [Insert Name here]

     

    Only a person pure of heart can use the power of these crystals.

     

    The seal was successful and chained the dark lord. The person who sealed the dark lord became a king, as he is the protector of the world.

     

    However as time passed, the guardian grew old. He would later die. But fortunately the guardian had heirs. And passed his duties off to his successor.
    Many centuries passed since the original guardian. After many centuries, his successors would later separate the world (meaning that there's racism) and make the world weak.

     

    As the world weakens the evils presence rises and eventually breaks free from the seals that held it, In the crisis that follows the king asks everyone still loyal to him to search and retrieve the crystals so he can seal the monster forever. And Valary does so. She comes back with all seven crystals but the king is captured and executed.
    Or just captured not killed
    Valary, who is a hyperactive, and adventurous girl, pure of heart can wield the power of the crystals. And since Valary here is pure of heart she can use it's power to seal the monster.

    • I'm surprised no else has commented on this yet. When I was reading this on my phone before bed last night I got really excited about it, and it's great to see an phone game being developed on here! I brought up the idea here and a lot of guys weren't keen saying they're not real games, but you know, they said that when I first mentioned facebook sign up. You have to keep with the times, and success comes from seeing potential in the future.

      The story is quite cliche, which seems perfect for a platformer 😛 Your concept art looks great too. :thumbsup:

    • Our game is in very early stages of development.
      I have two projects this time around and splitting time for both projects is a guaranteed headache. But what's really important is that everything will eventually pay off.

      As for the story, I went all generic because no matter how hard you try to write a great story for a platformer. In the end, it doesn't come out as great as you expect. I'm pretty happy with the story in general.

      We've played our own creation (with obstacles courses and other neat effects.) and it plays perfectly with almost no lag. Drew and I talked about an Alpha test exclusively for the phones.
      Do bear in mind that we are not going to rush this project and we will take all our time. Quality over Quantity is an old philosophy many game designers take these days.

    Ethereality's Core Story Theme

    It's been a while since i posted a blog for Ethereality. Last month i announced that the game story was getting all compiled in to one whole story script. It wasn't an easy task to put it all together as i had to fix a lot of outdated story ideas and tweak some others ideas too. Ethereality's story is not as big as CyberDrive but it's certainly a great story all by itself. The core theme of this game story is fear.  Hold on, fear? Why? Mostly because it's a simple theme to explore and it's dynamic enough to manipulate in the writing process. I started writing my story around my own fears.     Putting the story together.

    After many months of throwing my ideas away. After re-thinking a lot. I finally got the story that i wanted for a long time. as write this blog entry. I am currently putting the necessary parts of this game story together. Right now, i am organizing and putting everything in order before i start writing the whole script for important plot points. I got bits and pieces of story on my phone and on an old PC. So putting all these parts will take it's time.  I don't expect this to be a great story as CyberDrive or Repercussions, those two have a more complex and more intriguing story. As for this, not much. Ethereality will feature simplistic story-telling and a simplistic story-line. Mostly because this Market doesn't really care for a emotional-driven story. At least you're getting a story…better then getting none.

    In-game Microtransactions.

    On this new blog post i'm writing, i want to cover something that is highly controversial and that is micro-transactions.Now no one likes these pay to win scams that everyone on the internet hates. I do have my reasons of having them in my game, but also balancing them out properly in the game.  At first we wanted to add a Lives microtransactions due to it being a good idea. But the problem here is that once you lose all your lives you can't play the game until a certain timer could refill all your lives. For me it became something that stopped the fun for me.     Ambitious Game: Ethereality

    Hello i'm Omar, Game Designer for Ethereality. Before i go on, some of you may think that this project has died, the truth is. It hasn't died in anyway shape or form.However making a game like Ethereality is a big order for a small team as we have many ideas that we want to work on and that takes time. Since Drew and i are making a 3D game for the first time we needed to learn new things and observe art styles to make our vision authentic.
