Machine Made:Rebirth (How Dead Is The Hype?)

Hey ladies and gentlemen and welcome back to the Machine Made: Rebirth blog, where I, Allsvin, talk about the various antics and fun that I've been having working on my retro JRPG project, that is now past its release date by nearly a YEAR.

Let's quickly review a few of the troubles and tribulations that we've faced during our development, and talk about how amazing and cool and super-awesome-fantastical that this game has become as we've been developing, tweaking, getting feedback and generally just writing up a storm.

— We faced a complete loss of all of our data, resulting in a fine-toothed comb style search of the internet for a backup version, a quest in which we were successful, thanks to the saving grace provided by my dear friend and overall amazing guy, Troy!

— We faced nearly losing our minuscule financial backing during our small Kickstarter campaign, where we squeaked by with $2 donations from around the world to round up a small sum of money to continue our development! Thanks to everyone involved in that, it was hugely encouraging at the time and I attribute to that a lot of things I've learned about promoting games.

— We were banned from multiple reddit accounts, for posting… about indie game development… in the appropriate indie game development subreddits… I still don't understand the logic of reddit moderators, but I have learned that it's a huge waste of time to search through subreddits!

— We faced another entire, devastating loss of all of our data due to HDD failure, twice in quick succession shortly after Kickstarter. Thankfully, due to quick thinking from my friend Josh, we were able to recover our data from the broken harddrive, pull up our proverbial pants, and trek onwards. Thanks to my brother Dan and to Josh for helping me sift through those files to recover my game!

— We had to say goodbye to a few of our team members who just couldn't spend the time to keep creating content for us, no hard feelings towards these lovely people. We're still extremely happy to have had you, but we will definitely find it harder to finish without all of the help we can get.

— We have had our primary source of feedback GDU, nearly hacked and nearly crashed due to unexpected quirkiness caused by updates and security features. Thank goodness for Marked who has been our rock and safe place for game development ever since we made our first venture onto the internet and has consistently kept his website awesome and active the whole time we've been here. High five, Marked, you do this thing the right way!

AND NOW… for some of the awesome upcoming features from the surviving version of MM:R —

MEMORIA are items you can discover in the MM:R universe that will allow you to see into the past and learn about the characters' backstory and the history of the world! Now, the story is even richer and more compelling, as you will be able to review the scenes from memoria at any time, learning the subtleties of the characters displayed in them.

CRAFTING has been overhauled, and now there are many more items to make, that will be more potent, more customizable, and more awesome.

THE HQ is a place on the world map where your characters will end up living after Chapter 5, where you can hire people to move in, customize the rooms, provide services such as stores, crafting, training, etc. and where you can talk to and switch between party members!

ALL THIS awesome stuff and more will be coming up in our next version.

Anyone with questions should email me at allsvin@gmail.com, and that might be THE ONLY WAY to get the latest version once it is ready.

Hope to hear from you all soon,
Cheers,
Ryan
