Legacy

  • Storyline

It's been six months after "Stage 4", where the zombie-human ratio excels 1000:1, and, by some means, the human race has been able to pull together in order to survive. Although totally reclaiming Earth is still decades away, the surviving humans have managed to put together outposts scattered across the countryside. Although secure, at this stage, they are barely sustainable. Food and water are scarce, many are falling ill, and amidst all this, weapons and ammunition are slowly running dry, and defending the outpost is becoming harder and more dangerous each day.

However, as always, stores still operate, usually selling items the store owner had scavenged earlier that week. Most of these stores operate on the barter system, or on a points system awarded to people able to operate and do chores within the outpost. Money is still accepted, although money in any decent quantity is extremely rare.

You play as a mysterious ex-con who calls himself Cain, as he brings trouble wherever he goes. He and his friend, Matt, were fellow Con-Artists before the apocalypse, and only managed to survive thus far by using the tools of their illegal trade. However, with their new civilization slowly crumbling at their feet, they decide to do something completely and utterly insane; travel into zombie infested cities and pull off bat-shit crazy raids. They start small, siphoning petrol from underground car parks and raiding supplies from malls, but, as their equipment and weapons capacity improves, they move up and up, constantly chasing the next big thing.

    • Right now I'm actually fixing a few bugs with the initial release before I re-upload. There were some minor issues, but then there were some major ones, including some of the cosmetic fog layers not updating properly, so some rooms were plunged into total darkness.

I'd also like to move away from voice acting in later releases. Voice acting was cool in the initial release because I only gave myself five days to make it, and pulled a few favours from friends, specifically tatsu011, to get free voice acting. I didn't particularly want to have to put together tilesets and maps to make a small map just to give you your mission briefing.

    • Cosmetic fogs can be a pain to handle. I've been using them, and a lot of the times they just won't cooperate. And I hope you upload the release with voice acting, since I'm now curious to actually hear what it sounds like.

It looks similar to Hope Afloat, what with the shooting system, menu, and all. But the story has piqued my interest, possibly more than Hope Afloat did (although I still expect that one with full anticipation and curiosity). Yet another game to look forward to from you. Can't wait to see how this one goes.

… This community seems to be making most of the things I'm looking forward to. D:

    • It's still a little bugged and didn't have the same system refinement Hope Afloat Remastered has, but I intend to fix that. Shift draws the weapon and space fires. There's a bug where the silenced pistol can occasionally have infinite ammo, too..

    • All right, so I played the demo. Really enjoyed it–it was fun and entertaining. The voice acting was actually decent, the best I've seen in a while. It's got nothing on things like Corpse Party, but it was charming in its own way. It was nice not having to click through text every time the power went off, and just being able to listen and not have to read was a nice change for once. Tatsu's voice acting was clear and understandable, nice for something like this.

For the demo, I definitely enjoyed the voice acting. Not sure how I'd like it for a full game, though.

But it was fun and engaging, something I can play anytime. Can't wait to see the new demo in a few weeks.

    • Ah man, I remember Hope Afloat back when I was at GDU a while ago! Been wanting to check that out, and this one looks something similar. I see Hope Afloat has a demo, too, so I'll be playing both of them soon 😀

      So looking forward to this.

    • I love Tom's games. I've just been recently thinking about zombie survival stuff, too. Due to a storm tomorrow and no work, I'll be playing Hope Afloat Remastered! 😀
