RPG Maker MV Multiplayer (MMO) Project

RMMV MMO Recruitment

G'day.

I want to find some ppls who know their RPG's to begin the process of planning our little GDU MMO.

The current system is already integrated with our member system, meaning that all members are able to log into the game with their accounts. Right now.

Long term I want to create a team for development. I intend development to be very efficient in the sense that when you work on the game, in RPG Maker MV itself, changes will shoot up to the development server and changes will be seen only by running the game from that server. Therefore, development will start on a working project. Not a project which is miles away from its first tile. It should be easy to pick up where others left off, if they leave.

Short term I want to map out the systems for the game. In particular, members logging in for the first time and having a choice between certain attributes that will define various things in-game.

Lemme know if anyone's interested and I'll create a forum specifically for the MMO. *6-thumbsup*

  • I'll help as much as I can, but I have my own project I'll be working on at the same time. Although, because of the way I "work", all that really means is I'll be very familiar with MV lol

  • I'd be glad to help out in my free time. Just got a new job tho so i starting in march I won't have a lot of free time, but I'm sure I could spend a few hours a week to help out.

  • I do think I can help a little.I do have xp with RMMV but I'm also working on my own game and I may have some important stuff to take care of from time to time. But I'll be glad to help in ANY way I can.

  • I can do de m00sik n de gruphecs petty aight mate.

So if you need music or graphics for this, I can help you in any way possible. I would love to give something to this community 😀

But like everyone else, I put my own priorities on my own game so… I'll try my best.

  • I'm pleased to see some interest from you guys.

I'll keep this brief (you can't get more brief the bullets)

Recruitment will happen after the first demo.

A few of you indicate you want to be a part of the project but you have your own and other priorities. My goal is that the demo will make you excited for the project 🙂

There's no need for commitment. This project will run so that anyone who wants to contribute can, however little or large.
• I am interested in joining this project. I've been hoping for a coop or mmo solution to RPG maker for a while and I'll do anything I can to help this come to fruition faster 🙂

  • I've been busy instead building the GDU Refinery: http://www.gdunlimited.net/

This fell down on my priority list. But I'm glad there's interest in it, because it was really fun developing this. There's one dilemma that was the catalyst for me halting the project: How will this actually work in practice? If your game is really popular, the map will be spammed by sprites moving around, right?

The solution could be, for example, landscape maps show players on the map in real time and you can walk through player. Smaller maps (say the inside of buildings) don't show other plays.

If you guys want to help… can you conceptualize how you'd want such a system to work? I could do it, but it'd be awesome if we could work together on this to formulate a really cool system.

  • You could implement a party system that prevents players outside of your party from appear indoors or in dungeons. That way, only the overworld and large hub areas will have lots of people and everywhere else can be a nice, quiet place for you and your friends.

  • Not at this stage.

But keep us bookmarked for future developments. Development on the MMO isn't moving forward, because I'm dedicating all my programming time (which isn't much these days) to the Game Dev Refinery: http://www.gdunlimited.net/

There seems to be a fair bit of interest in the MMO, even with the little details of published… but there isn't a great deal of incentive for me to develop it. All of the interest is outside of GDU, and I'm not particularly persuaded to do stuff for non-GDU peps

  • I totally forgot to post in this. I'll be glad to help head this sort of project as a Technical/Game Design Lead as well as being a developer. I'll definitely have inputs on how to implement tech, like networking(my own project is a multiplayer game after all), and game design. I haven't used anything RPG Maker since XP and that was like 10 years ago. It shouldn't be an issue to pick up and learn since my job is a software engineer (I have to do these things on a day to day basis 😉 ).

If you are interested to really shape this project, you could grab a bunch of people you think would envision the game you'd want and have a virtual meeting of some kind with a white board to put things together. Having a solid pitch will give some momentum. The project could even be the head of GDR projects as a way of showing off GDR.

  • Thanks for the offer, Ken. I would love to accept it – and there is a ton of interest in this. Unfortunately, it is very unlikely I'll be able to commit any time to the project. What time I do have to spare for game-dev stuff is put into the website.

I'm more than happy to assist anyone who would want to take over this project – including the source code of what I have so far (which isn't much), coding (although I'm sure you don't my help in that area), and a web server for testing.

  • well that's too bad Mark, I was looking foreward to able to working on a GDU Online game. I know I haven't been online much these days (two kids do that to you) but I would have helped if possible.
Who knows, maybe a big RMMV mmo will be possible because of your begin this.
