GDU Copyrights???

Asked Marked if there are any copyrights on GDU for the resources I should be aware of besides the ones stated with the resource. He told me to post a topic somewhere on this, so here I go.

 

I (and probably lots of others) have downloaded resources on GDU, but I'm not seeing many credentials I need to give out. Like there is Luz who made a bunch of icons that I used and gave her credits because she asked. But when I go into the battler and other pictures, I'm not seeing any credentials to give, nor anything saying about being able to use them in a commercial game. So I'm just wondering if the phrase "Resources to use in your game" means that whatever people post in it can be used in commercial games without any problems from the creator of the content unless stated rules.

I haven't heard of many RM commercial games succeeding and I'm not sure how serious yours is, but my advice is as follows. You will not infringe on copyright until a commercial sale, so you shouldn't get bogged down with sourcing resources early in development. I highly highly recommend the following the steps:

• Use the resource in your game
• PM the uploader for permission or whether they know the original author 
• Note the URL's and author details of EVERY resource you use. 

If you get bogged down with your sourcing at a very early stage, you're wasting your time and increasing your chances of failure. RM games are 99% likely to fail anyway, so your best bet is to minimize these risks. I'm saying this from experience. I've known a lot of members' who projects have failed because they can't the resources they need. If you're trying to make a commercial game, well... you'll fail. You need to use the resources ASAP, as in right now, so you can focus on other things. Once you know your game is going to get completed and can viability be commercial, then you start to invest more of your time and energy into getting that permission OR finding replacements. 

 

Placeholder resources are your only chance of success. Being smart about these things and especially about your planning and development is best way to achieving a commercial game. In fact, such a policy should be written in your project charter.

Even if you are bad at making stuff its always best to try to make your own stuff. i suck at modeling and making graphics but i try to make my own even if it looks like shit. Follow this guide to make stuff good and a way to make you better.

 

Step 1:

Make Something

Step 2:

Get feedback on it and change it accordingly

Step 3:

Post what you got, then do steps 2 and 3 over and over till its good.

 

but yea if your going commercial always make sure to find the author of said resource and see what there terms are. If you cannot get a hold of them cut your loss and find another resource.

 

NEVER assume its ok to use a resource in a commercial project if you cannot get a hold of the author. Cut your loss and move on to another resource or do steps 1-3 above.

I was asking about the resources on this website that don't state anything about crediting. Like this is an example of a resource I found on this website that I wish to use in my commercial game

 

but I don't see any copyright claims on this object. 

 

Then when I look at the http://www.gdunlimited.net/mission-statement, it says that this website is to provide exclusive resources. Are there rights to the website of free use to anything posted? That is what I wish to know.

You can also go to images in google and drag the image into the search bar to search for other sites with that image. You might find the author that way.

Obviously they are not. That may be all you want to know but there's more that you need to know. Refer to my post if you even read it.
