Why do you stick around?

Recommended Posts

I been wonderin this question after talking to salty about the sites current condition.

So the questions:

-What brought you to this site?

-Why did you decide to make an account to post?

-Why are you still here?

---

What brought you to this site?

I made a forum back in the day with a friend called RPG Crazy Creations. My friend was looking for affiliates and found this place. My site didnt work out very well(because it was a free host) so i decided to check out this place.

Why did you decide to make an account and actually post?

I wanted to get my stuff more known around communities and this was the most friendly community i could find. Other communities were way to big and all assholes to everything i posted.

Why are you still here?

Im still here becasue marked keeps me in his basement and forces me to keep up my posting quota to get fed each day.

In all seriousness im here because i love this place. Its a nice small community with lots of freindly and helpful people. I have made many friends here and were friends in more places than here. If it wasnt for this site i wouldnt have met most of my friends. I mainly love helping people and showing off some of the stuff i make. This site is my internet home and i plan on keeping it that way till the site completely dies.

Please post your answers below.

What brought you to this site?

Google. Video games have always been my passion, so I figured it would be a good way to make a living. My current community was a small team dedicated to a free fan game. Realizing that I cannot achieve my goal there I set out to prove my potential to the world. I found this place.

Why did you decide to make an account and actually post?

Particularly one script that had a small bug which caused it to crash. But to post the solution I had to register... I didn't really approve, but after having a look I quickly realized this community was friendly. So I joined in and fixed the script, and started poking around.

Why are you still here?

'Cause it's the only place that will have me. x3

During the countless arguments I made some friends. The place grew on me, and now... every now and then I return with another attempt at world conquest.

ps: I guess a little time in the chat can incite a person to great deeds. Eh, Pol?

What brought you to this site?

Searched "RPG Maker VX Ace Resources" in Google, found this site and it's resource section. I made an account, and the first thing I did was play at the Arcade, then realized there was no point other than to waste all time at the arcade.

Why did you decide to make an account and actually post?

Because I could advertise my game in the games section and tell others about the game of what I was making, if it wasn't for that, I wouldn't be here.

Why are you still here?

In all seriousness I'm here because i love this place. Its a nice small community with lots of freindly and helpful people. I have made many friends here and many are much better friends than what I have in real life. If it wasn't for this site, I wouldn't have met some great people that actually share common intrests with me. I mainly love helping people and showing off some of the stuff i make. This site is my internet home and i plan on keeping it that way till the site completely dies.

Totally didn't steal this off of Pol.

What brought you to this site?

I was inspired by Creation Asylum, my first ever experience with a forum. In particular I liked helping people. I helped this one guy, former moderator Ravenclaw by doing a bunch of battler requests for him. I really liked the sense of community there. At the bottom of Creation Asylum is link to invision free which allows you to create free forums with the ancient version of our current software. I have no idea why he had a link there, but I followed it, and boom: http://z3.invisionfree.com/RPGXP_Unlimited/index.php?showuser=1 This was on 8th May 2006. Dammnnnn.

I was quite young at this time so started a real website was quite challenging. You need to pay for domains, hosting and software. I don't think I even got my first job until 2008, lol. So by major coinky dink I found 110mb.com which offered free hosting and allowed me to set up what is today this website, created 03 Oct 2006. Back then the domain was something like rmxpunlimited.110mb.com. This is our 4th server.

Why did you decide to make an account and actually post?

As above.

Why are you still here?

....dude, why am I still here?  :dizzy: Actually the website has opened a lot of doors for me. I got this laborer job at a meat factory in 2010 and it was a real grind. While I was doing the work physically, I was using my brain to come up with a new concept of the site. Of course it was amazing in my brain, and like all people who hatch master plans for major projects, it was optimistic but I still plunged thousands of hours into it and created something. I taught myself a damn lot about PHP and web development while creating the chatroom, scripts section, tutortials section, resource section and games section. I was quite new to it so if I recreated any of these sections I'm sure it would be way better :) But anyway, this led me to getting one of my part-time jobs in web development where I get very, very well and use that to fund my education. I was originally planning to do law, which the very thought of makes me grimace (even though I'm a qualified lawyer), but I'm now 6 weeks away from my second degree which includes info tech and I plan to go into the business/management side of commercial software development. So that kept me around. Currently, I'm here coz of you guys, ofc :)

-What brought you to this site?

Rgangsta. I was starting to learn game development when i saw he was making a game on another community forum.

Why did you decide to make an account to post?

I wanted to learn RPG maker so i decided to make an account to learn better. One thing is for sure this community was nice

and really active at the time. It felt warm and cozy, i liked how it was going...besides free resources. This is my home, i can't really join other forums i just can't they feel like a plastic community, unlike this one...where the Admin actually interacts with the community instead of making an announcement for a site update and forgets the community altogether. Mark sure is a great guy who does love to talk with us and listens to us when we need him to listen to us.

Why are you still here?

I like it here. Most community forums that i was in died already. Joining a new forum is kind of boring and the plastic community sites have at times.. ..blah...blah..blah... Besides i was a moderator and i pay loyalty to this site. Gave me great memories and great people to talk with. New ideas come from here

What brought you to this site?

I was looking for a nice place for RPG Maker stuff, and i found this website, made an account to download things, but then i just suddenly ended up fixing up my account after seeing the game page. I thought it would be good to be by intelligent people, just in case something horrible goes on while i was working on my game.

Why did you decide to make an account and actually post?

Well, after fair observation, my first thought was, "These guys are too serious for me". (I also have a terribly short fuse, so there's that). I ended up signing up just to download something.

I just started posting because I needed to put Prophet Sword out there.

Why are you still here?

Because compared to most communities, you guys have brains. And i actually like this websites design.

So I'll stay until people get tired of my memes, or I'm shunned out.

Or until i fuck up so bad, everyone hates me.

But as long as those don't happen, I'll be here until GDU warps and compresses itself so much, it causes a black hole made of memes.

Your all casual memers. I'm a competitive memer.

What brought you to this site?

Google, Of course. About three years ago when I was new to RM I had so many problems with scripts and RM itself. I could find some of my answers by searching GDU forums so I started to like it.

Why did you decide to make an account to post?

Well as I learned more about RM I had more questions to ask so I joined. My English was so bad but this community helped me kindly. I still wonder how they could understand me xD We had great members like Foreverzer0 and Diagostimo back then and my questions got replied quickly. (We still have awesome members tho)

Why are you still here?

Three years have passed and now I'm totally addicted to GDU :D Also now I know more about RM and I like to help new members just like others helped me when I was new :) And it feels really good to be among other game developers :D

-What brought you to this site?

I don't know. One minute I was walking home when some men in black grabbed me and threw me in the back of a truck. Next minute I wake up in Australia.

-Why did you decide to make an account to post?

After running around many towns in Australia, stealing from this weird old place called rmxpunlimited and many others just like it........I don't know what I'm talking about. lol

Seriously, though besides Chaos-Projects and RPGRPGRevolution (closed), like Pol said, every other site had to many assholes on it. I got into a verbal fight with two mods on rpgmakervxace.com because, they had readying issues when answering my question. Took the same question over to Chaos-Projects and it was answered in like 10 minutes.

Besides that, I made an account to just talk to other gamers and post my games and scripts.

-Why are you still here?

Well I haven't been on in awhile because of work, but when I am on I try to post something. Never really want to leave just had less time to think of stuff to post sometimes.

Did not know that someone bought the domain. Also my bad, I keep forgetting that New Zealand is its own country.

rmxpunlimited.net was from New Zealand :) Now it's moved to Japan http://www.rmxpunlimited.net/ (I'm still getting over that someone bought my domain after I let it expire :( ).

Should I be worried? That sounds just like stalking an ex.

Wait what? I never thought about what happened to the old domain...huh.

Also, Marked, I'm not gonna start calling you Roochu. Never gonna happen.

I guess since posted I need to do this now too...

What brought you to this site?

Google. Looking for an RPG Maker site that could help me with rmxp

Why did you decide to make an account to post?

I wanted to share my crappy game I made when I was just messing around with rmxp. Don't ask what it is and don't try it find it, it's embarrassing.

Why are you still here?

Made some friends and then just kinda stayed...I guess I subconsciously thought I needed a home on the internet and I guess this is it.

This is like...the second site I made an account on and the first one where I used this username. I didn't regularly use the internet much at all before I came here to be honest. Except maybe Youtube...

About that. I just sent my resume to 20 IT companies and there's a link in it to some stuff I wrote here, so I'm trying to hide my user account to some extent by changing the username (btw my name is Mark irl) and making Pol admin. Roochu is a combination of reworded nicknames of my friend and gf (their idea), lolsauce.

What brought you to this site?
I think what brought me to this site was when I abandoned my first RMXP project and started my second. At that time I kind of realized that I didn't know very much about how to use RMXP and that I needed help. So I went to Google, naturally, and found a lot of posts that came from this place called GDUnlimited.

Why did you decide to make an account to post?
I had specific problems that I couldn't get a handle on... so I made an account. I left GDU after that due to a lack of interest/less need for help in RMXP. But then my friend was interested in this site, so I gave my account to the current Germany so he can post here :P Then he convinced me to come back because he said the community's really nice--that was something I didn't really bother with, but Germany seemed to prefer to participate in rather than just getting help. So now I'm just here bother everyone lol

Why are you still here?
Hmmm just because I really like the people here? And also someone has to be there to suffer my X-Men fangirling status updates. Nobody on facebook cares... rofc

Also, Marked, I'm not gonna start calling you Roochu. Never gonna happen.

yeah me neither P: He'll always be "Mark" to me.

... But "Roochu" sounds like some kind of name an anime fan would give themselves on the internet XD

What brought you to this site?

About 3-4 years ago I started lurking cuz I found the resources section here. Mostly I'd download stuff off there and not really pay attention to the site, but I started to go into the other threads and subforums for different kinds of resources. I actually learned most of what I know about eventing from either Polraudio or Marked, though I never asked any questions myself. I used to be a member over at ChaosProjects and I really didn't like it, nobody used avatars and I could never really feel like people were people instead of grey names on a mauve backdrop. I was looking for a little bit better answers and this website had what I needed. I made my profile a lil while ago because I just moved into a new place and was setting up my new computer when I remembered this website and RMXP. I figured it was about time I actually contributed instead of leeched off everyone's amazing talents.

Why did you decide to make an account and actually post?

Like I said above, I used an awful lot of resources, music, knowledge, etc without actually contributing much of my own. To make up for all that, I'm trying to help everyone I can before starting work on my 9th Symphony... so to speak.

Why are you still here?

Although I just recently became a posting member, I guess I kept coming back to this site mostly to better my knowledge of ruby and eventing. There never seemed to be an end to how many questions were asked by people getting involved in a new project needing advice from this sagelike community of gamers, and I always needed an answer. I never really had the best reception in other forums, but this community is small and full of committed individuals instead of the sometimes chaotic, rapid posts of its rival website and overzealous mods therein.

I love forums with small, thought-out posts rather than 4chan-esque websites that have fascist, black-and-white mods that simply don't care about the community or its content. This place, in all its carnations, has been really mellow and friendly. Exactly the type of place for me.

And I hope to get to know you all better than the dozen or so posts I've read form you so far.
