How I made A Gaming PC By Accident

Part 1

INTRODUCTION

Hey, everyone! Welcome to my blog on how I am making a completely custom gaming PC which happened totally by accident.

Now that I somewhat know what I'm doing, I'm making this blog to show what I plan on making and to get some advice from anyone who's a PC gaming guru...because I'm still noob. :/

At the end of the blog, I'll list the hardware I plan on putting into

For anyone who does't know, I own a PS4. The Playstation 4 is truly a great machine. And for anyone who's a gamer, it sure is cheaper than PC. I've learned that now... Anyways, I feel that I've temporarily ran my course with it. I've had my fill of Warframe, last-gen ports (GTAV + TLoU), and FarCry 4. I've basically run out of games to play.

A few weeks back I remembered that I had a PS2 emulator on one of my old hard drives. Knowing it was outdated (since 2009), I decided to redownload a newer version to play some of my PS2 games I have laying around. Long story short, one of my games wasn't playing as fast as the others, specifically, NBA Street Vol. 2. No matter what settings I put the graphics on through the emulator, the game still wouldn't run as smooth. So I thought it had to be the graphics. I immediately started searching up cheap graphics cards. A couple searches sent me to the Nvidia GTX 960. Again, I'm a complete noob about PC gaming. I've never even seen a graphics card in person before which is going to bite me in the ass later.

After I made up my mind to get the GTX 960, I went to NewEgg and searched it up. Lo and behold, there's this glorious green and black MSI GTX 960 Limited Edition graphics card staring me in the face. Mind you, I didn't notice the "Limited Edition" print on it. As any of my friends will know, I'm a sucker for green and black color schemes. I immediately bought the card thinking it was the coolest looking thing ever not even concerning myself with the reviews, screenshots, or specifications. I just bought it outright. Stupid, I know.

After I bought it, I decided to see how I would install it into my current PC which is a Lenovo ThinkCentre M90 3692. I know it's ugly but I got it free and it came with 4GB RAM and an i3 processor so I can't complain. Besides, I like the look of it just a little. So anyways, through my further research after I bought the darn thing, I found out it's a Limited Edition card which comes complete with a FarCry 4 mouse pad which makes it a pretty recent graphics card of which I had no idea of either. Not only that, but I noticed how big it was. I saw a guy reviewing it yesterday and it was bigger than his face! I was under the impression that it would probably be the size of my PS Vita or smaller. Again, I've never seen a GPU in person. So I did what any sensible person would do in this situation. I started buying more PC parts to plug this thing into. :D

THE RIG

I plan on building a complete green, black and white rig. Color is very important to me. Especially when choosing the motherboard.

CPU: Intel Core i3 Processor (my current one) which I plan to replace with an Intel Core i7-4790K Devil's Canyon Processor

MoBo: MSI H97M Eco because it has the color scheme I want but I want a green and black MSI Z97 which isn't out...yet. This is why I'm buying the Mobo last.

GPU: MSI GTX 960 which I currently own (this thing is HUGE!)

PSU: Corsair CS550M

RAM: Avexir Venom Series 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz (they pulsate with green lights!)

HDD: I'm not too sure on this yet. Seeing how I'm going to download a lot of my games, an SSD wouldn't be too good because of low space. And given the RAM I'll have, I think it balances out. I'll need to research this more.

Fan: Corsair SP120 LED Fan

Casing: Parvum Systems S2.0 BLACK/GREEN

Well, that's it. I'm currently rustling up some cash to purchase all of these shiny bits and pieces. Anyone have suggestions or input on this build? Again, I'm noob so...yeah.

IMAGES

I apologize for the images being sideways. I uploaded them straight from my phone. I included a shot with quarter on the card to show size comparison.
